Reducing Short Lived Climate Pollutants

The latest publications by the IPCC and UNEnvironment paint a dire apocalyptic picture of the impacts of not meeting the challenges of the Paris agreement.  Reducing short-lived climate pollutants in the near term gives us an opportunity to meet the Paris target of 1.5C while at the same time reap the benefits of better air quality, health and agricultural yields.  The webinar will define short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), their sources, and the impact  to society as well as the current mechanisms for SLCP emission reduction.

Clean Air Asia’s (CAA) mission is better air quality and healthier, more livable cities in Asia and the Pacific. Established in 2001 by the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and USAID, it envisions an “Asia without air pollution.” We work with national and city governments, private sector, and development partners to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in Asian cities.  We improve policy, build capacity, and raise awareness through these programs: air quality and climate change, and sustainable transport (with sub-programs on low-emission urban development, clean fuels and vehicles, and green freight and logistics). We have offices in PRC and India, and country networks in Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Viet Nam, and active partners in Thailand, Pakistan and other countries. Our assistance to cities focuses on science-based clean air action plan development and implementation, and capacity building on air quality management (AQM). Our flagship event, the Better Air Quality Conference (BAQ), convenes policymakers, practitioners, and industry leaders in developing solutions for cleaner and livable cities.

Alan has a background in Industrial Engineering and a Masters in International Management of Resources and Environment from TU-Freiberg in Germany. Alan has more than 10 years of experience in working in greenhouse gas mitigation projects and reducing short-lived climate pollutants in the region, including NDC scenario building, design carbon finance mechanisms and identification of mitigation technologies in the Philippine context.  His experience in emission reduction projects encompasses several sectors including: agriculture, waste, energy, industry, and transportation.  Since working for Clean Air Asia as Director of Programs, he has overseen all major air quality project deliverables of the organization.

Prior to joining Clean Air Asia he was a consultant to the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Climate Change Division on the Philippine membership to the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants.
